A late entry to Ronovan’s haiku challenge, but I finally did it. What looked like an easy prompt turned out to be quite difficult—for me anyway. Thanks, Ronovan for making my brain work so hard!
Gouache by Franz Niklaus König
The day the bridge fell
river ran free unfettered
eternal motion.
Bridge spans the gulf
stars wheel in endless movement
bringing dreams to birth.
On the bridge light moves
across the rushing river
morning star fading.
This is beautiful so glad you shared.
Thank you! This prompt turned out to be much more difficult than I’d thought!
Well you did a wonderful job!
You’re a glutton for punishment Jane. Great haiku btw.
If it’s not hurting it’s not working 🙂
Hi Jane! All 3 haiku are fantastic! Well done. 😀
Thanks! I sweated blood over them 🙂
Love the Konig painting you used in your post 🙂 fab haiku, they work really well with the image
Thank you! Choosing the image is a lot of fun too 🙂
Your Haiku enlivens nature and uplifts the spirit. I am always impressed by your use of words. They have such a natural flow and inner movement. jk 😀
Thank you! I’m very flattered that you enjoy my haiku and that you find the words flow despite being tailored to keep the right number of syllables 🙂
Ah, but the words find you eventually that want to fit into your Haiku word puzzle. 🙂
I like that idea, of the words finding their own way into the right place 🙂
I especially love ‘bringing dreams to birth’ and ‘morning star fading’. My special name for my daughter is Bright Morning Star, as this is what I saw as I looked out of the window just after she was born.
I have put this post in my growing list of favourites: https://daffodilwild.wordpress.com/poems/favourites-from-other-poets/
Thank you! That’s made my morning 🙂
🙂
Thank you! I’m glad the word choice meant something to you. The morning star is a beautiful symbol.
