This week’s challenge from Ronovan is a suitably wintry one.
White winter wind calls
cracking ice in his black voice
cruel times to come.
Blackbird sings his song
white swan bends a graceful neck
the whole world enthralled.
White blizzard fury
black branches stripped of gold leaves
green buds wait for spring.
These are almost sacred!
Thank you Carol. I suppose the natural world is sacred.
Very true!
Very nice.
I’ve finally decided to give Ronovan’s Challenge a try, myself.
I saw. I thought they were pretty good.
Love this collection. Favourite line: ‘cracking ice in his black voice’
Thank you 🙂
All three haiku are beautiful. 🙂 I loved the second one best.
Thank you 🙂 Swans are always winners, aren’t they ?
They are all most lovely! But I do also like the second poem the best. 😀
Thank you, Liz. That swan again 🙂
just the expression of white winter’s voice being black is amazingly beautiful.
Thank you! I’m glad it worked as an idea. I write what comes and sometimes I wonder if I really did think that.
Wow, I love this collection. They all fit your image perfectly – for there’s a swan down there somewhere in a section of unfrozen water. The December Christmas snow drifting across the screen adds an extra enchantment. Love it. 🙂
Thank you, Christine. Fitting the image was pure luck, and I have WP to thank for the snow effects 🙂
The snow effect still takes me by surprise every December!
Me too. But it’s a pleasant surprise 🙂

They’re all beautiful. What a magnificent use of words you have. The picture reminds me of peaceful times somewhere long ago.
Thank you! I’m glad you like them. The Breugel painting is timeless.
Second one, the one i liked the most.. Nice ones.. 🙂
Thank you, Prakash! The second one seems to be the winner 🙂
Beautiful haiku Jane
Thank you, Denis 🙂
