Walls of bricks and brambles

The Daily Post prompt is: brick

Walls of bricks and brambles climb

into starless nights, tar-thick with storm.

Black waves pound a violet shore,

where pools so deep they swallow light

crackle beneath a film of ice,

and nothing, not the faintest celestial spark,

the deepest thrumming of the earth’s core

reaches into my heart,

shrunken within the rattling cage of ribs,

because you took away the world

when you ravelled up your love.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
