The image this week is a painting by Adriano Cecioni entitled: Interior with a figure.
It’s a painting I find slightly unsettling as it corresponds to a recurring nightmare that troubled me not too long ago. Is it grief or terror that has her crouching there? Is she hiding or simply too weary to stand? Is someone leaving, or are they about to appear? Is someone in the room that the spectator can’t see?
Write a short story using the picture, on the theme of
Who goes there?Ā
I know I’ve used this image to illustrate a short story before, but I can’t find it, so like you, I’m going to have to write a new one. Please post the link to your post in the comments before next Thursday. Happy writing!
You manage to find art I have NEVER seen before. This goes perfectly.
How you find art I have not even heard of or ever seen not even once, well that is a talent as I thought I knew more than I obviously do! What a wonderful painting.
I love it as a piece of art. The colours, the simplicity of the room, and the menace of that open door. I trawl through wikimedia commons looking at the artwork. i’ve found masses of paintings and painters I never knew existed.
Interesting twist to the story. A type of abuse we hear much less about. Well done!
Hi Jane, best wishes for the weekend.

Thanks! You too.
This image was on the list already, so no favouritismābut I can see how it would work with your story line š
Hi Jane! It’s as if you planned this week’s painting! It fits in perfectly! I love the colors. Have a wonderful weekend. Here’s Part 8. -Kat

I wonder what the real story is. She looks like a fallen woman to me…?

I thought that too.
I did a little fudging on the door, but tried to keep the fear. Excellent image.

The door is what you want it to be š
Something different this time, and over 200 words. š

I’m surprised you managed to get it all into such a short story š
I didn’t want to make it too long for your challenge (or for readers). š
I realised that. I just thought, if you had the time (and I know you don’t) a longer version would make a tremendous story š
Thank you! I appreciate it.
I may revisit the story and rewrite it at some point.
I hope you post it if you do š
Thank you, Jane, for the inspiration. I found this painting truly unsettling – and oddly inspiring.
Here’s my entry!

It seems to me to be a painting with a story behind it, rather than a depiction of something obvious. I’m glad it inspired you š
