Morning tanka

On Ken’s blog, I discovered a link to a new challenge—Colleen’s tanka challenge. Tanka isn’t something I’ve done for a while. Hope this is in the right spirit.

Stars fade at morning,

fire in the east warms the sky,

I wake to birdsong

and hope, that you wait beneath

the last roses not fallen.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. I like the imagery and found your poem very touching. A big part of the challenge is sticking to the 5/7/5/7/7 ( and I would’ve been just as moved with Eastern fire in Line#2). I would expect, and have had, people tell me the same about a haiku.
