This is for Sonya’s Three Line Tales photo prompt. I think I might have mentioned already, I don’t get pumpkins.

When the blinding light lessened, we watched in horror as the excrescence that had grown in the night poured its innards through the valley, ribbons and shreds of pulped flesh, writhing and uncoiling.
The strange light in the sky retreated, still pulsing, an alien space ship some said, the Russians, others affirmed, and the unholy mess left behind continued to bubble and spread like pus.
Though we waited past dawn, the sun refused to rise, and by the new, metallic light that filled the sky in an even, dull glare, we watched, bile and terror rising from our stomachs, as smooth, white pods rose to the surface of the gluey mass, and the life inside struggled to break out.
Oh, this is very War of the Worlds! Lovely descriptions of alien fleshiness – so vivid, creeping and oozing and bubbling. Great stuff and very creepy. I can just hear the opening strains of Jeff Wayne’s music now. 🙂
I’ve never seen pumpkin ‘flesh’ before. It looks absolutely vile!
It feels both revolting and sort of nice too – squidgy 🙂
If you like squidge. Personally…
A bit of vegetable squidge is okay by me. Now, give me left over ketchup on plates … Urgh!
My children refuse to even touch a plate that has had Rocquefort anywhere near it.
You know I’ve never tasted it. Mainly because French cheesmakers don’t bother appealling to vegetarians and so I’ve never found one with veggie rennet. Supposed to be the king of cheeses, though cheese often tastes better than it smells …
I find a little goes a long way. Not the smell, but the flavour is very strong.
Maybe one day, when vegetarianism takes hold in France, I shall taste some. Love blue cheese 🙂
I think you’ll have a long wait.
🙂
Poor Jack. Such a troubled soul. If only he looked to the light within.
More pumpkin lore?
Ewwww! Alien pumpkin creatures!
I’m having pumpkin/yellow split pea soup tonight, and it’s delicious. If there are any alien pieces, they’ve been pureed. 🙂
You have no idea what they’ll do to your insides. Haven’t you ever seen ‘Alien’?
🙂
Okay, that is terrifying… Great use of the photo, Jane!
Thanks Sonya. I’ve never seen an exploded pumpkin before. Looks terrifying to me too 🙂
