The broken bridge

The Secret Keeper’s writing challenge seems to be inspiring a lot of cascade poems lately. This one uses the words:

BROKE – JUDGE – STORY – BRIDGE – LAKE

The bridge is broken across the stream,

That winds its way to the placid lake,

Who is to judge the right or the wrong?

A stormy night, the messenger rides,

Too dark for ever his eye to see,

The bridge is broken across the stream.

The horse refuses, shies on the brink,

Rider urges, they slip in the flood

That winds its way to the placid lake.

The story ends, both drowned in the lake,

The message lies where the fierce pike lurks,

Who is to judge the right or the wrong?
