Canary

For the Secret Keeper’s writing prompt using the words:

CAGE | SING | DREAM | WATCH | SPELL

The caged canary sings his song,

Regardless of the time that flows,

Sees no bright gleam the dull day long.

The rippling notes so bright and clear,

Are sung for one who cannot hear,

A heart so full will surely break.

And does he dream, the yellow bird,

Of sunrise on a seabound hill,

In spring when all the lovesick trill?

His song’s sweet notes in cold wind blown,

No fluttering wings to take him home,

Cursed to live his short life alone.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
