Bird laughter

Standing in the cold

on the edge of something vast,

a step away from the abyss,

a gull swoops and soars

and skims an unseen wave.

Mist rises,

smoke and ice,

and from the heart of winter,

laughter peals.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. Something that makes me despair is the cutesy way animals are portrayed for children. The grinning polar bears, happy pandas, smiling tigers, bunnies with big eyes and droopy ears, cows with long fluttery lashes etc etc and look at what we do to them in real life. We want kids to think animals are cuddly and friendly and then we kill them, directly or indirectly. We live in a warped world.

      2. You haven’t even mentioned aquariums and zoos.
Watched a Chef last week see for the 1st time, a hog being slaughtered.
Makes all those pastel cellophane wrapped packages in the grocery store look very different.

      1. Well, me too actually, but I’m trying to overcome my natural antipathy by telling myself that it’s there for a reason. Maybe somebody will explain it one day 🙂
