Just to make life difficult, I’ve used the dVerse theme—drinking phrases to not produce a drinking poem—to write a triolet.
I find the courage, now I’m free,
Your name is poison on my tongue,
When vespers chime you’ll be at sea.
I find the courage, now I’m free,
I drown my sorrows, let you be.
To chase your last words, how they stung,
I find the courage. Now I’m free,
Your name is poison on my tongue.
Gorgeous, Jane. This form (which I love) suits you well. Awesome use of the phrases…I would choose to drown my sorrows at sea, any day.
Thank you! The triolet is a form I like a lot, but it requires a lot of brain work and discipline, unlike other forms of poetry that come straight from the gut.
Not familiar with this form but I will investigate further after reading your delightful poem.
Thank you Paul. It’s a tricky form but it’s good for the brain 🙂
Such a long time since I did a triolet… I used to do a lot… The phrase:
Your name is poison on my tongue is perfect here.
Thanks! I get the urge to write triolets sometimes. It’s pure masochism. And if I get it really bad, I try a villanelle 🙂
Try a rondeau or a sestina if the villanelle bores you.
It doesn’t bore me, it challenges me (a polite way of saying it does my head in).
Nice triolet to freedom from a relationship. You made your poem flow well and took advantage of the repetition to reinforce the message of freedom.
Thanks Frank. The repetition is one of the good things about a triolet. Glad it worked 🙂
Nicely done, Jane. I agree that the repetition reinforced the message.
Now I’m reminded that I wanted to write a triolet again. 🙂
Thanks you 🙂 They’re brain teasers as far as I’m concerned, but I love it when they come out right.
Yes, I know that feeling. 🙂
I like the rhythm here, and the verse “Your name is poison on my tongue”.
Thank you! Sometimes it’s the rhythm that carries the poem.
Great triolet!
Thank you! I find them really hard to write beyond the first great idea 🙂
beautiful Jane
Thank you, Sri!
My god this is good!!❤️ Love the form and the way you have executed it so very gracefully!
Thank you Sanaa! It takes a lot of fiddling with but it’s a good form to persevere with.
Terrific!
Glad you like it!
