Spring dawn quadrille

In the dark,

before the dawn,

the birds are singing;

in the rain,

grey light pours

first spring music.

First light,

first songs,

since the dawn of time,

have rained upon the grey spring

and will

until the last winter night

ends this world.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. Oh my, Jane. It’s like you wrote the poem that was in my head. Beautiful.
    The last couple of days I’ve heard spring bird songs. Yesterday, it was warm enough to open the windows. Now we’re in the midst of a snowstorm.

      1. Good for you that you got it down. It’s very, very quiet here right now. There was a heavy rain when I first woke up, but now it’s turned to snow. It’s almost 7 AM, but it’s still kind of dark–except for the white snow that has already covered everything.
