Spring poplars

It’s Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday again. This week’s theme words are Lead & Keep.

Poplar leaves tremble,

brisk spring wind blowing, boughs bend,

leaden river flows.

I keep my face in the sun,

Catch the gold, paint the morning.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. Well done… lead or lead – homographs: words spelled the same pronounced differently. You can use any form of the word. I love the word leaden. As usual, you paint a word picture in my mind. Lovely!

    1. Thanks Colleen. It’s like tear. Some people see weeping, others see a rip. I like leaden too. It’s one of those old pre-Latin forms that sound earthy and sort of pagan.
