Quadrille 2: Come home

Painting ©Fondazione Cariplo

I know where you are,

a train journey away,

gone just for a day

and back before dark,

but the day will be long

and crowded with absence,

that silent mass

that squats on the heart

and twists its strumming strings

until it hurts.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I’ll start the prompt again when we’re settled. We’re moving this summer and it will be a hell of a job. I can’t concentrate on much else.
