World of dreams

Borrowing Day 1 of Jilly’s Jim Harrison quotes.

“In this world of dreams don’t let the clock cut up your life in pieces.”

This is a world of dreams, they say,

where anything you want, you can,

it’s true as long as you can pay.

Dream of Egyptian nights bright-starred

and boat trips down the sluggish Nile,

just jump aboard your credit card.

Ferocious big cat safely dead,

is yours to boast of to your friends,

your photo, foot upon its head.

A dream is slippery as an eel,

what’s fun to you is death to me,

your bucket list to me, unreal.

Too many folk with too much time—

some live their dreams of candy froth,

some yet to leave the primal slime.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. I don’t really have a bucket list, but if I did, it would involve lots of travel, and that costs, even when going low key and using local public transport… all part of the experience. Hence I haven’t travelled anywhere near as much as I would like. That and Carys. But all of those things always did cost, even historically. This is a beautiful and chilling reflection on the state of humanity. It amazes me how you always manage to expose the ugliness of human nature in such beautiful and raw terms.
