I had intended to do NaNoWriMo again this year, then I counted the number of completed, revised, polished and beta-read manuscripts I already have waiting to catch the interest of an agent (eight) and the number of partially completed novels in the pile (four) and I asked myself, if I can’t shift what I’ve already written, why make the problem worse?
So, instead of adding to the world novel glut, I am going to set myself (and anyone who wants to join in) a poetry challenge instead. Every day for the whole of November, I am going to post a line taken from a W.B. Yeats poem as prompt, inspiration, motivation, springboard. I’m not offering prizes or anything, just a challenge.
Get ready for Dead Day when I shall post the first quote.
Oh, I like this! If one can’t be inspired by Yeats, then there’s probably no hope. 🙂
I like this no-pressure challenge, like Eliot’s Shadorma. If I get to them, fine, and if not, it’s also fine. I’m called for jury duty on Monday, so who know what will happen this week?
I hope you do join in. Finding the quotes shouldn’t be hard, and with no round ups and prizes, it should be pure pleasure 🙂
Yes, exactly! 🙂
🙂
Oh Merril, Jury Duty and W.B.Yeats, now that could be highly inspirational if not just highly humorous! Good luck with both and love this idea Jane! A friend of mine Kevin Bateman just did a poetry reading via Periscope with a group of Irish Poets at Thoor Ballylee yesterday. Yeats is never far from our minds meanderings it seems.
I hadn’t quite thought of it that way, Damien. Yes, there might be both inspiration and humor. 😉
If it wasn’t the Bible or Shakespeare, if it’s memorable it was probably Yeats 🙂
Such wise words, in another hundred years they may very well be saying that about a wandering woman named Dougherty!!
In a hundred years in a parallel universe 🙂
So Carla will be quoting you then, in her own universe after another jump through a worm hole!!!
She might 🙂 She’s a very sensitive girl.
Yeats! Yeah! May drop by. 🙂
I hope you do. He’s my favourite poet 🙂
Hoping to do multiple November challenges; like juggling knives and oranges at the same time. 🙂
If you do too many of those, I hope you have very good health insurance 🙂
Haha! Not planning to do multiple challenges in a single day. I’m going to sample the assorted box of chocolates and write according to the flavor that appeals. Will your Yeats quotes be posted in the mornings?
What’s morning for you? It might be morning here, but it could still be the middle of the night where you are 🙂
I know! Your morning is my middle of the night. I’m on the same time zone as NYC. So I look at posts at 5am and then go to work. I think my 5 am is your late morning or lunch…?
I’m an hour beyond GMT which is 6 hours ahead of you, I think. The clocks went back last night, so it might be only six hours now. You should have the prompt around breakfast time 🙂
Wonderful! Our clicks go back next week.
Sounds very fandango 🙂
Oooh! Great word
We’re getting a lot of that at the moment. Waiting for the second civil war to break out in Spain…
I am in Jane , a great idea looking forward to day one of “Not the NaNoWriMo challenge” bring on the No Pressure WB Yeats November Write.😉🤗🌹🌹🌹. NoPresWBYNo.
💜💜💜
Whoohoo! You are under absolutely no obligation to write a 1000 word poem a day, honest 🙂
Well I can try but how about just a poem a day, the reason I am not doing NaNoWriMo is because I have a hectic month but never say never 😱💜
A poem a day from a single prompt source would be pretty dedicated! I’d do NaNo if I wasn’t feeling that there’s not much point in writing books that may well never be published.
I feel the same but never lose sight of the fact that if we don’t try we will never succeed.
I have an embarrassing number of rejections and not much encouragement. It’s time to leave it alone for a while, I think.
Yes no point in bashing your ego I do enough of that , yes try again next year 💜
I will if I have any success with the tomes I’ve already finished.
💜🌹🌹
You will 🌹
I’ll try some of that black magic.
Soft or hard centres 😱🤗
Ha ha! I hate the hard centres.
Soft it is then 💜💜
Ta 🙂 I’ll have the coffee cream please.
Let’s hope there are two or even four so we can share💜💜
I’ll have the strawberry if you’d rather.
No we can share 😁😁🌹
🙂
It sounds like an interesting challenge. I may be able to participate for a few days.
Do, Frank. I don’t expect everyone will be inspired by all of the quotes, but one or two should spark something.
Something to look forward to!
There usually is. We like to keep ourselves busy 🙂
Sounds like an intriguing challenge. I believe I’m bagging out of NaNo, but am still taking on the Shadormas (or is it Shadormi?). Yeats could definitely help make it through the month.
I’d be pleased if you gave it a try. I’m not aiming for anything specific, simply a nudge in the direction of inspiration. I have my first shadorma waiting to go 🙂
I’m in!
Wonderful!
I don’t write poetry but this might inspire even me ….
Just go with the flow 🙂
Oh goodie!!! I love your challenges Jane! 😊
I hope it will produce some good poetry 🙂
Me too! ❤️
🙂
Reblogged this on Die Erste Eslarner Zeitung – Aus und über Eslarn, sowie die bayerisch-tschechische Region!.
🙂
Nice take on the challenge!
Thank you 🙂
If I had some finished manuscripts I would too!
But you will finish it, and then I hope you get yourself a publisher without too much angst.
Thank you! Me too, that’s the dream 🙈
🙂
Congrats on all the finished work!!!!!
Thank you! I hope, one day, you’ll be congratulating me on getting some of it published!!!!
That would be WONDERFUL!!!
Incredible!!!
