Bouncy Limerick

Just testing a theory.

At the assizes a certain Ms. Trounce

Stepped into the box with a flounce.

When asked why young Fred

Had been dropped on his head,

“Just to see,” she replied, “if he’d bounce.”

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. I love limericks and they certainly do make everything sound so much better. I love the rhythm of them, so jolly and cheery! It is interesting though that it was a tragedy in a different form.

    1. It wasn’t. Not intentionally anyway, but a lot of people who read it thought it was an awful story. Different cultures, different sense of humour, I suppose. Some people find Lucille Ball funny…

    1. An awful lot of people thought that the quadrille version was awful, tragic, a really sad story, despite the comic verse rhythm and the comic verse treatment. I wondered if a Limerick would have set the bells of ‘humour’ ringing. I’m not sure you can have a sad limerick. The form is too light-hearted.

    1. I don’t like trying to be funny. It’s very personal and I’m not a comedian, so it’s likely to fall flat. But there are some forms, like Limericks and that did di di di di dum rhythm that just cry out to be laughed at.

  2. Wowowowo!!! Totally amazed… So witty and funny!! Loved it. I wish I could write like this. I write Limericks too you see, maybe you’d like to check them out?

    1. I have had a look at your Limericks. I think in India you use this form to write serious poetry whereas I would only ever use it for silly verse. It’s been used for comic purposes only for too long for me to take it seriously 🙂

      1. Lol maybe, thanks for a taking a look though. I doubt if anyone even writes Limericks although you can check my Limerick #1 and Shakechilly inspired Limerick, those may catch your attention as they silly, funny and witty

  3. That was a cool one. I just tried writing one and almost sorta did but I know that its hard. Especially writing a funny one like that
