For Frank Tassone’s weekly haikai challenge. This week’s theme is ‘rose’. The first cranes flew over this afternoon on their way north.

Rose, not even bud,
not even leaf,
waits for spring.
The wind is turning,
bringing back the cranes and you.
how beautiful
Thank you!
Ah! The promise of spring….beautiful.
Thank you!
😊
Looks like Haïku. What’s this style of poetry ?
It’s a sort of extended haiku. I’m no expert but I think the first three lines set out the image, a description, and the last two lines are a personal reflection on it.
It’s beautiful! Whether it’s Haïku or not. 🙂 great job!
Thank you! It isn’t a style I find particularly easy to write.
It’s a tanka.
Thank you Petru !
Lovely tanka, Jane.
I’ve seen cranes, but migratory cranes in flight is not an image that is typical for our area.
They look very like geese except their legs trail behind and they often lose the plot, end up in a chaotic spiral like feathers going down a giant plug hole.
Best description ever. 🙂
🙂
Love your description of the cranes. I haven’t seen any around here for a while. Stunning tanka.
Thank you! We see far more cranes than geese. I miss the serious orderliness of the geese and their cry that isn’t quite so much like a traffic jam. This video was taken a couple of years ago when we had over four thousand cranes fly over Bordeaux in a single wave. It was spectacular and deafening!
Lovely…
I have snow on buds…
My friend actually saw a black immature heron at our library pond last week.
Though we have some robins that stay all year… I haven’s seen any yet.
Still about a month for spring to get here.
Thank you. No snow here, but we’ve had some pretty cold rain 🙂 I love watching the birds. Things happen so quickly once they start pairing off and nest building.
Love this.
Thanks Pat 🙂
