The holiday village came to life slowly as usual, after late night partying and all the other nocturnal activity that goes with youth and not having to get up to go to work.

Jade opened the shutters, rubbed her eyes in disbelief at the multi-coloured things that had appeared around the pool overnight then, kissing Rory, still writhing in the throes of a tummy bug, on his sweaty forehead, dashed outside to get a closer look.

Rory, delirious and bed-ridden, was the only sign of life the rescue services found when they were alerted to the radio silence from the village by worried relatives.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. I used to take the children to watch these fountains. It’s just by where we used to live. There was always one that had broken down, and it was always the one with the biggest crowd of kids waiting to see what it was going to do.
