Daily poem 42: When?

When did we turn the wrong corner

find a dull treeless avenue

where we expected birdsong?

I expected birdsong

but now I wonder

what was in your dreams—you never said.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. I like the conversational tone of this one. Especially the last few lines…a subtle shuffle from ethereal to reality. I like it perhaps because I tend to talk this way, much to the frustration of my partner who has giving up expecting a full train of thought to land at the station. I guess my brain is always one step ahead without concern for the luggage left on deck. 😉
