Bronze doors bar the Roman sun,
and within,
in cool, incensed shade
the basilica vibrates,
atwitter with voices.

Holiday memories, nicely done. I can see the scene you have set ๐
Thank you! I’m glad you could ๐
Yes it put me in mind of Tuscany ๐
I miss Italy.
Yes we do too๐
The vibration of voices…”v” seems such a lovely letter to me right now. (K)
Cicadas use it a lot.
They do! I never noticed it quite that way.
We didn’t hear any at all yesterday. Too hot for them I expect ๐
We’ve had a few, but not that many so far this year.
Maybe it is too hot for them. Everything is silent here until around 10.30/11.00pm. Then it’s the crickets.
We had a cricket in the basement for days. Singing and singing.
The only one we’ve had inside was a poor critter than had lost one of its back legs, so no singing ๐ฆ
I love the imagery–and the v’s are great. ๐
I’m imagining a late medieval/Renaissance scene.
Thank you ๐ There’s a lot of Renaissance pageantry in modern Rome tooโthe clerics don’t change much ๐
That’s true. I’ve only been in Rome briefly–but I think old churches are the same wherever. You can imagine the past in them.
I used to think it was a lack of decorum and respect that made me so irritated by people who chatter and flash their way around old churches, but I think it’s what you say, it’s the sense of history that they disturb that’s so annoying.
I took pictures, but I always tried to be respectful (especially as sometimes people were there praying).
I was seeing just watching some FB posts of a high school group singing in some old churches in Germany. (My daughters’ former high school choral teacher there with them.) If you don’t look at their modern dress, the old music fits and soars there.
Taking photos isn’t nearly so obtrusive as the chattering. Why do people visit monuments if they just want to continue the story about their son-in-law’s vasectomy?
Perhaps he was a priest. ๐
That is not an excuse. Anyway, priests shouldn’t need them ๐
I know. I was joking. ๐
That’s the trouble with messages, you can’t see the expression on their faces ๐
