Haikai challenge: Thanksgiving

A five line poem in tanka form for Frank Tassone’s haikai challenge. I know this isn’t a true tanka, but the subject matter isn’t either, so I took liberties.

Some give thanks for life,

for being spared, yet winter

comes then spring, always;

the sky holds us all, sun, moon,

stars in the palm of its hand.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
