these bleak meadows

tempest-beaten and cowed

songbirds by the house still chirrup

gaily.

      1. I remember a time when we were told not to feed the birds once the weather got better because there was plenty of them to eat, and they got rid of the insects in the gardens. Now Round Up does that.

  1. I like especially the way the sparrows gather in trees and make a singing chorus of silhouettes on the bare branches at dusk. It doesn’t matter how cold it is. (K)
