An etheree for Colleen Chesebro’s weekly prompt—meaning & passion
At the wind’s mercy, we watch the clouds pass,
from the east with Siberian chill,
the north with Arctic snow and ice.
Birds, essence of misery,
hunch on still-black boughs, rain-
wet and stark, waiting
for the sun’s
ardour to
kindle
spring.
All so true, i feel with the birds awaiting the spring too. Michael
The birds have been lucky this year. Not too many nights of frost and an early spring.
That’s a perfect description of our weather here today…(K)
Crossing fingers winter has blown itself out here.
Birds and Spring, we wait here in the midst of a snow storm today. Beautiful etheree Jane.
Thank you, Hélène. We’re supposed to have had our last night of frost and the daytime temperatures are warm again. Spring!
Lucky you.
I might not have hung on much longer…
😃
Wow! It was really cold with all those wind!
It’s the wind that makes it feel so cold.
There’s a melancholy feel to this. The birds are definitely waiting for spring–flocking to our feeder like crazy.
There’s still not much for them to eat. They can’t live on sunshine 🙂
I like this Etheree, Jane and your word choice really makes it special. ❤
Thank you, Colleen 🙂
I’ve noticed in the comments a hope for permanent spring – I know the feeling, and I hope this poem’s desire for spring comes true. It’s always sad when fruiting trees and plants get destroyed by a sudden frost.
It is. It must be specially hard on the birds and animals that are relying on them. Thankfully we get very few nights of frost here, and it looks set for warm weather into the beginning of March so we should be out of danger.
There’s usually two cold snaps for us when it looks like it’s about to get warm – Dogwood Winter (when the dogwoods bloom) and Blackberry Winter (when the blackberries bloom). If those are especially bad, budding peach trees and strawberry plants can get destroyed. Hope you’re out of the way now for reals, though! That would be excellent.
I hope so too! I think our dogwood is different, doesn’t flower until much later.
