On downlands

The quadrille prompt at dverse this week was the word ‘up’. Just for fun I have written one using the word ‘down’.

On downlands,

windblown with thistledown,

that rise and fall,

drowned in an ocean of mist,

I count the steps

to a tumbledown house

where a baby awaits

with downy head,

fledgling mine own,

crowned in rainbows,

the singing of birds

and wind-downed rose petals.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. I love the fun you’ve had with “down”.. I found it uplifting actually (as I sit here around midday on a grey, rainy autumnal Sunday). Thank you, it was a treat to read!
