tonight there are fireworks

and in the ditch

a hare’s bones

stripped clean

sink into the lush grass

in the field

the harvesters are working

in mechanical dust-clouded clamour

a butterfly passes

in perfect black-trimmed silence

dusk is

dusty moth-winged

chaff-moted muted gold

where shadows grow

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. It’s only a tiny field. The farmer had to break a path through the set-aside field (full of saplings now) to get the three engines into it. It took them about an hour to do the whole lot.
