I had the honour to be chosen poet of the week for Colleen Chesebro’s photo prompt last month. The prize was to be able to choose this month’s image. This one is by Susan Cipriano from Pixabay
Trees link
ocean sky and
blue water, branching wide,
rooting deep where bird-fish skim-swim
skywards
or rootwards delve. Leaves wave, kelp-green
flags, pleading. Can you see
their reflections
calling?
I do. Wonderful, Jane. Way to go.
Keep listening and shouting.
I can too. They don’t even need to shout. (K)
It’s a pretty image of a catastrophe.
Wow… I got goosebumps reading your words: “…rooting deep where bird-fish skim-swim…” I love this comparison. When I close my eyes, your words describe the sight in my mind. Spoken out loud, this Butterfly Cinquain transports me skyward! ❤
Thank you, Colleen 🙂 There’s a lot going on in the picture, and there will be many different interpretations of it!
Oh, yes… much more than what meets the eye! 😀
True!
This is beautiful, Jane. Thanks for the great prompt. 🙂
Thank you, Diana. I hope it inspires some good poetry 🙂
I’m going to give it a try. 😀
🙂
Yes, I can see! This photo has a power of invoking so many feelings in us. I could write a different poem each time I look at it.
🙂
You made an interesting choice for the art, Jane, and your words actually offer hope for what is left after what seems to us an inevitable tragedy. Nothing says man has to be a part of it.
Thanks Ken. Maybe there will be something left. I’m hoping we’ll stop the juggernaut before we get that far, because I have a feeling we’ll be the very last to let go.
Beautiful and chilling. You know I love reflections–bird-fish is wonderful.
It’s a surreal, dreamlike sort of image. And you’re right, there’s something magical about reflections.
