Fading into winter mist,
frost creeping, stealing joy—
there was golden sun here once
and peace beneath the sky,
lizard-basking on hot stone.
Cold now
il gèle à pierre fendre
and the stream yells loud between its banks
where dragonflies played
their silent summer music.
brrrr !!
Exactly. I always said we were in for a hard winter this year…
Our trees are completely naked.
Some of them like the oaks hang onto their leaves until the bitter end.
I love the sound of it.
There’s always some greenery or some brown or red leaves. I hope this year doesn’t turn out to be the exception…
We have evergreen trees and that’s about it.
We have those too. There’s a mania for growing stuff that has no business in the south west, like olive trees, banana trees, all sorts of palms and Mediterranean pine trees. The banana trees go disgusting if the frost gets them…
Crazy.
The sunny south is all people care about.
Well, it can get pretty depressing without the sun. We take so much for granted.
We all need the sun, but it’s become something of a status symbol to be able to say I have a palm tree growing in my back garden, aren’t I lucky?
Yeah, sounds like it.
I’m reading this as it’s 29 degrees outside, perfect. (And what a BEAUTIFUL image!)
It was a bit of a shock to wake up to! The sun’s shining and we’ll be back to normal tomorrow, but our temperatures won’t go over 17° or so.
Oh dear–hope it’s just a brief cold snap.
The photo is lovely though. The frosted area looks like it’s dusted, but then there’s the green, so it looks like it’s a portal to a another world. 🙂
It was an extreme dip in temperature last night. It should be back to normal from tomorrow. The sun’s shining, no more rain forecast for a while, so it’s looking good 🙂
That’s good! 🙂
Sound is definitely different in winter than summer, although I never thought about it before. Your ear is as well atuned to the world as your eye. (K)
It’s so quiet here. Every sound registers.
It’s the same here too Jane, we are in for a long hard winter💜💜
The forecast is always way out because I think they just give the seasonal norms. They don’t know what’s happening.
No they do not, do they💜
Rarely!
