      1. Yes, we have telethons, too. This isn’t any one thing. I think it’s a response to everyone buying stuff after our Thanksgiving, and to think about giving to charities and such instead.

      2. If you’ve got the cash to indulge in buying stuff you don’t need, I suppose you can give a little to something worthwhile too. The consumer organisation here did a survey on the stuff sold on Black Friday and concluded that 95% of it was no cheaper than usual, often more expensive and almost always inferior quality, old model, outdated technology rubbish.

      1. I know–why is Michael Bloomberg spending millions of dollars on a presidential campaign when he could be building affordable housing?
