Listening to the drip drip of rain on the migraine
and feeling the earth soak beneath boots, sinking
unstable and the air full of shimmering, I walk
beneath dripping trees, where birds watch for worms,
and the background noise shrinks to the song of
nightingales, tirelessly ignoring storm and downpour.
I walk a path between grasses shoulder high, bowed
by lead crystal drops, and the clamour soothes,
cooling the blood with rain drip dripping
from the pigeon-grey eaves of the sky.
Beautiful written.
Thank you ๐
“Air full of shimmering” I love that โค
Shimmering’s off. It’s a fecking deluge now.
Oh today is Baltic after yesterday’s fabulous sunshine ๐ฑ
Not so much Baltic as Biblic here. Getting the ark ready.
That bad? ๐ฑ
The house is on the side of a hill, there are no foundations and no damp course so the back of the house is below ground level and….damp. Husband dug out the start of a damp course a few days ago when it was hot. We now have a moat.
Oh no. Nightmare ๐
It’s sort of prehistoric.
Gorgeous read. Sorry about the migraine.
Thanks. It’s clearing up. Wasn’t a bad one.
Nice to hear.

Sorry about the migraine. I thought the shimmering sounded lovely, too–sorry it turned into a deluge. But now we know that salamanders seem to like it. ๐
It’s gone now thanks, and it wasn’t a really bad one. Yes, shimmering rain is fine, but it really poured yesterday and it isn’t over. Now we have the amphibian swimming pool, it’s only reasonable that the weather keeps it full ๐
Hahaha. Well, hopefully the weather will change, and they can find a new neighborhood. ๐
They can’t have sprung up out of nowhere so maybe the pile of rocks around the dogwood tree is home enough for them.
…or maybe they did spring from nowhere. ๐
It’s true, that is a theory…
I hope your migraine is gone now.
I remember some houses with perpetually flooded basements when I was growing up. I wonder why we didn’t have a sump pump. (K)
Gone, thanks. Unlike the rain. That moat is looking quite authentic now. Just need a drawbridge.
Maybe a few crocodiles.
Nothing introduced, please. A few pike would do.
My sister has migraines. If the rain and nightingale-song help, I’ll recommend them to her. I hope this is what “cooling the blood” means. In the comments, the rain has gone from light to heavier than heavy. I hope the moat is working. I hope everyone there is safe and not storm-damaged.
It was a mild attack so I only took Ibuprophene for it. It calmed it but I don’t like taking the heavy duty migraine tablet unless I have to. I’d advise drugs for a bad migraine. In this particular case, the rain and birdsong was soothing.
The moat is a disaster. It’s going to be weeks before it empties. I hope the salamanders enjoy it.
