Sevenling: Preparing for the storm

After the calm beneath the burning sun

the stilly meadow waves and the fluttering foam

the sky curdles beaten by the storm

Storm brews from curdled cloud

stirred by leaf and bough lashing

a sighing like the tide hissing out

there is tragedy in the heat-weary fury of brow-beaten trees

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. I like “brow-beaten trees.” Sometimes they do look like that.
We had a scary storm yesterday with lots of window-rattling thunder and flashes of lightning–husband napped in front of the TV through some of it 😏, but Ricky the Cat and I cuddled together, and I debated whether we should head to the basement.

    1. We actually had a storm last night too, not just the lightning flashes in the distance. It rained torrents for a couple of hours and this morning you wouldn’t even know it. Dry as a bone again. Do you keep your power?

      1. I’m sure the rain helped, even if it seems dry again today. Yes, our power didn’t even flicker, but we’re supposed to get more storms, so who knows? Our ground is so wet, it wouldn’t take much for trees to fall.

      2. I’m glad you didn’t either! We ended up having rain, but not thunderstorms. Possible thunderstorms this afternoon though-but then we should have some nice weather.
