Fleeting glimpse

unmown beneath willows

Out beyond windows and open doors

where the wind blows there is life,

so much life it swells pushing up the floor tiles

reaching under the walls

but it comes not for me

only because the wall is there and can be breached

because the window is open and the air rushes

a river into the vacuum.

I sit watch listen and I wait, the only still point

in this universe where everything has a function

except those lost among the givens

who stumble from question to question.

Sometimes I think I see the answer fluttering

among dense leaves or slipping into green shadow;

eyes turn to mine, a hoof a wing pauses in mid air

but though I call it never waits to be caught.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
