Poems for now

nothing in this
afternoon louder than the
angry sparrowhawk

stream trickles
almost-dry aflutter with
thirsty wood pigeons

and sun slants
in golden shafts through tired
boughs where warblers wait

for ripe figs
and the whipsnake
to leave
