Listening to Madama Butterfly
all the beauty
the pain and injustice
that ever was
and ever will be.

Perhaps if Madama Butterfly
was taught in schools
instead of saluting flags
or bowing heads in prayer
we might be better than we are.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. I can understand having core values, we all do, but they ought to be common human values, not a national line. Patriotism seems to me to be a sentiment you shouldn’t need to stir up except in dire need, like in the case of invasion/occupation. Otherwise it comes over as exclusive and unnecessary.

    1. The story is so tragic. It’s not true that men 100 years ago and more were oblivious to the injustices that women suffered. Any sensitive man would have done no matter what the epoch.

      1. I have never heard the term profane to describe music (other than rap or punk, perhaps..ha.) You’ve added to my vocabulary. Now I have to look it up.
