Mapping winter

Blow the summer sky into the past
bury it beneath last year’s dead leaves
and sweep it into purple sleep before the fall.

Dark days are coming
black wind-fingers plucking tree music
scattering leaf notes like startled birds.

The storm will pass
ebb with the hiss of a wild tide
the blue beaten and bruised

and we will learn to tread the frost
follow leaf-veined parchment maps
in search of hidden treasure.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. I heard an analysis by one of our political commentators that Trump hasn’t lost any voters. And it won’t make any difference what he does or says, how awful, stupid, ridiculous or dangerous he is, the same people will carry on voting for him.

      2. It’s a toss up. The voting process will be a nightmare, there’ll be interference by Trump as well as Russia and China, and there’s the Electoral College which favors Trump. After all he did not really win the last election. Plus, he won’t go. The police are on his side but the military seem not to be, so that gives some hope. I dont think anyone can predict what will happen.

      3. We were saying yesterday evening how little it would take for law and order to break down. here, I mean. And very few people are armed here, apart from the drug dealers. I imagine the stakes are a lot higher in the US highly inflammable.

      4. It only needs a very small minority of violent thugs and their ‘brains’ and the rest of the population will let them get on with it. It takes heroism to stand up to guns and few of us have what it takes. That’s why we need laws and police forces, assuming, of course, you can keep them on the side of the law and keep the law impartial.
