November Ekphrastic Challenge: Day 28

The painting I chose to use for Paul Brookes’ challenge is Seclusion by Terry Chipp.

TC28 Seclusion

Solitude

Between beams of living wood
beneath branch rafters thatched
with leaves lit by sun and moon
is my house.
Music of bird and stream burble
falling leaves and the wind
in spindle bushes is the balm
in this calm pulsing green
the air clean of electric vibes
the twitter of disembodies voices.
Here would be peace heaven
if only the absence of you was
not darker than this patch
of reflected sky.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

  1. Perfect, Jane. A fine line between peaceful solitude and loneliness sometimes. Though your area–aside from the hunters–sounds so lovely.
And as an aside, burble so wonderfully describes moving streams it distracted me a bit because it’s so fun to say. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Burble does sound like a word children would use ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone reacts differently to lack of close neighbours and constant human company. What is peaceful seclusion of one (me) is unbearable solitude for someone else.
