If the circle opens

Kerfe asks the question here, and I wondered if it had an answer

If the circle opens, will it
release the oceans
of people-trees-four-legged-waves within,
the bird-fish and scaled birds,
the creepers and crawlers,
the flowering tendrilled vines,

so many worlds enclosed in horizons
lapped by sea and sky,
and the gentle swaying caress
of forest canopies?

And then,
if the line flexes and curls
unwilling to touch raw edges
where fires burn
the rip-roaring voices of rockets screech
and the lament of the living rises
higher than the smoke of the pyres
will it make a circle again?

Perhaps,
but perhaps

if the harmony of the tension is broken
like the skin on a water droplet,
it will pour and pour
until there are no more oceans to weep salt tears,
and the line will dangle over the edge of the void
until the soft hands of space take pity on it
and haul it in.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
