There’s a bird

There’s a bird that sings
in the trees by the stream,
a song repeated.
Another bird picks it up and replies.

In the trees by the stream,
hidden in shadows cool and green,
the summer sings

a song repeated,
slow and lazy,
a handful of notes.

Another bird picks it up and replies,
the echo of cool green and dappled gold
stream-babble of bird-peace.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
