If there’s a moon

If there’s a moon

If there’s a moon above,
she shines on other fields,
not here where grey-ghost fog
envelopes like a shroud.

If wolf moon hunts the night
It’s in some other land,
washed in silver, soft
beneath her silent pads,

and I, we, the watchers,
huddle plume to plume
or beneath tight-curled tail,
dreaming of a brighter dawn.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. It’s cold here, but the wind has swept some of the clouds away for a bit. I got to see the moon, but now the wind has picked up, and he/she/it is howling outside the window.
