The end of the world

Painting by Odilon Redon

The end of the world

Dark is the bright light of day
and shadows beneath the hedges
the quiet is a fearful hush

as the world holds its breath
and we wait for news
that brings only anguish.

Dark in the light and fracas
in the silent listening.
Only the birds soldier on

and I wonder if on the world’s last day
there will still be blackbirds
to sing its passing.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. Thank you xx I can’t stop thinking about it. We hear interviews with women in tears who say they’ll not leave, they’ll fight. It’s so sad pushing people to taking up weapons to defend themselves.
