Colours
They bubble up from the past,
psychedelic childhoods in tangerine and sky blue,
lava lamps and floral prints.
They fade out on old biscuit tins,
cardboard chocolate boxes full of postcards,
illustrations from the days of steam.
We remember through a vintage film,
artistically soft-focused, sound a little tinny,
autumnal at the edges,
and the vibrancy of today flutters out of reach,
caught sometimes in the tail of the eye,
finches and their pied plumage.
Reblogged this on The Wombwell Rainbow.
So evocative, and that last stanza so true.
I think I posted the wrong poem…
Oh–yes I see it’s a different one from the one on Paul’s site. I’m having trouble keeping the days and poems straight, too. 😀
We had second daughter over for a couple of days and I’ve been dipping in here just to post my poem and send the next day’s off to Paul. I had one in hand, and that was enough to confuse me.
Oh, that’s lovely! I’m trying to stay ahead because older child is coming for Passover, and we will also have family over. I started the cooking today. 🙂 I have actual work to do, too.
Your cooking marathons seem to go on most of the year! We’ll just have the youngest here (Easter), then it’s off to Bordeaux for the newest one’s first birthday.
No, cooking marathons are just for holidays, but Passover has several courses, and I make vegetarian and carnivore options. 😏
Oh, wow–1 year!❤️
What a year!
Yes.
We do get caught too often inside those old stories, afraid to let go. (K)
You’re right. We kid ourselves everything was so much better then.
Stirs nostaligic
I think we hark back to the past a bit too often.
…conveniently forgetting the whole picture…
