17. (seven lines)

17.

The air swells
too cold to taste
fills the space
with frozen rain
the sky with dirty grey

day sheds no light
on this deep dark sadness.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. It seems perfectly normal to me that we should dress in warm clothes indoors in the winter. Some people whine if they can’t be in tee shirts all winter.

      2. Those warm days we were getting about 65°F in the study without lighting the stove. Now we light the stove early morning and after eight hours the temperature is only 60°F. The sun makes a huge different to us.

      1. I can only imagine how cold it must be where you are. I’m in a place where the temperature drops to 16 and I’m finding it cold! I guess my dreams of settling in a snow capped mountain region aren’t materialising anytime soon with my body unable to adapt to chilly weather.

      2. It’s like anywhere. Fine if you’re rich, have a well-insulated house and the means to heat it. Still, living in a fridge has its advantages in summer 🙂

  1. I really like that photo.
It’s not that cold here, but they are stingy with the heat, especially at night. I slept in my sleeping bag under the comforter last night. And another grey day, raining again…(K)

    1. The photo is from last year. It’s strange but there hasn’t been so much frost this year, even though the water butts are frozen solid. Earlier in the winter we had evenings when the grass was crispy with frost though the temperatures weren’t as low as they are now. Don’t understand it.
If you’re moving about all the time, it’s okay to have the heat relatively low, but the minute you stop, the cold has a way of making itself felt pretty quickly.
I can sympathise with the sleeping bag solution. The end of my nose freezing often wakes me up. The temperature in the bedroom never gets about 45° even in the daytime at the moment.

      1. We do usually get heat at 6 am. And off and on during the day. But rarely after 6 pm. I get it–heating costs are high. But it’s uncomfortable at times.

      2. It’s that wealth privilege too many in our countries suffer from. They think they’re having a hard time if any limit is put on their personal comfort.
