For Ronovan’s weekly challenge.
how quickly
night falls in the dark lane
where shadows grow
folding wings spreading wings
feet pad between dusk and dawn
night is a song
of cricket chirrup
and the invisible wind
in dark leaves
murmuring
impatient moon
rising through glowing golden
fields of sunset
with all this light no wonder
the birds will not be silent
I finally caught sight of a couple of deer down by the stream. They crossed to our side and ran through the trees to where next door’s meadow begins. A tanka for Colleen’s Tuesday challenge.
Through the trees, deer leap,
red light in green shade flickers,
then in silence, gone.
I search the still branches, find
memories of wild beauty.
It’s Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday again. This week’s theme words are Lead & Keep.
Poplar leaves tremble,
brisk spring wind blowing, boughs bend,
leaden river flows.
I keep my face in the sun,
Catch the gold, paint the morning.
This is for Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday poetry challenge.
When spring blossom falls
we turn faces to the sun—
mud a pink carpet.
Reflected in puddles, clouds
colour of cherry blossom.
This is for Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday challenge. A good word choice for this changeable time of year.
Winter sky afire,
sun blazing, a funeral ship—
morning comes, ash grey.
Blaze holds back the bitter cold,
still I long for soft spring rain.
