Mirror-water, silver-sheened,
pool of liquid sky,
and in the ruffle-ripples skim
flecked and dappled clouds.

The tide pulls, moon-drawn,
the ghostly night lake,
where pike stir the silvering
on the other side.

Pool that mirrors the sky,

the passing clouds,

wrinkled by those who come to drink,

bird-splashed and rain-showered,

show me the face that others see,

the grey behind my head,

the gusts of wrinkles passing,

and the eyes that smile

at the yellow kingcups bowing.
