I recently asked an ornithologist. He said according to a study with magpies it’s a myth they just love to steal bright things. It makes a good story, though, doesn’t it?
It does. I thought all crows liked bright shiny things. Another cherished myth bites the dust.
Perhaps there are a few exceptions… It’s also supposed to be an established fact that women (or *girls*) are crazy about diamonds. I can live without them.
The option would be nice though 🙂 You could always turn them into something useful like mortgage repayments or groceries.
Perfect. What gets me about your writing is you are a published author of fiction among other accomplishments and you still have the time and ability to purpose such perfect poetry alongside your prose (I was going to try to be clever and say ‘plethora of prose’ but I thought I’d be irritating, ha ha !). Anyway I take my hat off to you, because if I didn’t know you were an accomplished writer of prose I would adore your poetry irrespective, that you can dance between such genres really shows the scope of you. xx
Hello jane. Very creative take on this week’s prompt words. Lovely haiku.
Thank you Vashti 🙂
I pondered a similar direction with the words this week, but could not get there – you got there beautifully. Last week, I was in the garden and a magpie went into my house through the patio door, which was only open a few inches – of course it was looking for shiny things (!?!) I leave trails of glitter everywhere!
Thank you! I’m glad you like the result. I know that the evidence for magpies stealing glittery things is only anecdotal, but all crows are intelligent, curious birds, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t be curious of anything that catches their eye.
Yes, I agree Jane. 🙂
Nice haiku.. liked the selection of words.. 🙂
Thank you Prakash 🙂
