Toad usurper

This very short post is proving very difficult and frustrating. That bloody new editor has appeared and is absolutely impossible to use. All I want to do is stick in a photo from my gallery and it won’t do it. I’m back on the old old editor going through WP admin which is a pain.

So…On August 9 I posted a photo of the toad, named Terry by our youngest, who had taken up residence inside the Mimosa Hostilis (the Vicious Mimosa tree).

We had a big storm a few nights ago and Terry hadn’t come back in the morning. For two days the hole was empty, then yesterday evening this appeared.

This is not Terry. Meet Theresa.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. So do I, but I wasn’t asked. I had an email from them this afternoon saying that the new editor was the default from now on. I have to jump through hoops now to post anything. The new editor is awful.

      1. It’s a real pain. I had to use it today and the only way I can get it to do anything useful like add an image is to choose the ‘classic block’ and fiddle with that.

    1. I went into admin as it says in the mail you can do, but the old editor you get is the really old editor not the last one. Otherwise you can fish up a ‘classic block’ that looks similar to the old editor, but take your eyes off it for a minute and it reverts to the new one. A pain, yes.

  1. Finders keepers for Teresa — she looks like she’s making herself at home!

I was worried about clicking that button to switch over to the new editor and now I’m even more worried about it. No time to learn something new right this minute!

    1. I’m not sure what kind of animal would dare throw Theresa out. She’s quite an impressive size.
I didn’t have to press any button, WP just sent an email telling me I’d been switched to the new editor. It’s possible to get back to the very old editor, but not the last one. Otherwise you can set up a ‘block’ in the new one that looks similar to the old editor and allows you to add images. There’s no obvious way of doing it with the new editor that isn’t suited to the kind of things we post anyway.

      1. Hmm, that’s odd. Maybe they’re switching people over in waves. Seems like a lousy “improvement” if they’ve made it so hard to add images.

      2. I don’t know what their game is, but I know bloggers who’ve given up in despair because they’re not getting answers from WP support about the image issue.

  2. A charming post. Try just typing the title in, saving and closing.. Then reopen in drafts and the old editor should be in force. Let me know if this works. It works for me.

    1. Thanks Judy 🙂 I’ve just tried your tip and it doesn’t work. I have to go to Admin and use the very old editor, the one before, or look for the ‘classic’ block in the new editor and that works in a reasonably familiar way. The new editor is so completely unintuitive. There’s no tool bar, no indication of how to upload an image and add it to a post. You can add a link, but I can’t see how to get into the image gallery for instance. I’m assuming it makes things easier for the paying options, the professional sites, but for ordinary ‘free’ sites, when all you want is a blank page for text and the possibility of adding a photo or hyperlink, the old one worked perfectly well.
