Microfiction: The last trump

For Sacha Black’s themed 52 word challenge, the only trump I care to think about. And it worked out at 52 words exactly with no editing.

Nellie had packed her trunk and turned her back on the circus. At last she was free. She trundled down the leafy lane with a song in her heart that exploded in a wild trumpety trump, trump, trump…

From the picnic site goggle-eyed children surged. “Look! The runaway elephant!”

Nellie was buggered.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. Actually, Nellie remembered that among her things she’d packed her trunk sabre, so she fitted it, scythed through the children and galloped (trundled) to freedom over the border into elephant land.

      1. Me mock… never I would carry ‘water for elephants’ any day *thinks* well I have read the book and watched the film ‘water for elephants’ and tortured the song on occasion too. 😎😃

  1. GENIUS, this is what I love about these challenges, I’d only thought of two options, this wasn’t one of them. I used to love this song as a kiddie 😀 thanks for the trip down memory lane.
