And at the last

And at the last

when the earth was rain-swollen
and green-soaked, when the dripping leaves
were full of singing birds,

I watched the kestrel skimming the cow parsley,
snails sliding at their stately pace
towards the tenderest leaves,

and the gold in the sky,
how it matched the sodden haystacks
and torched them with sunset fire.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. It was! The sun shines directly through our bedroom window and straight into the kitchen. It had poured with rain all day but the cloud lifted just as the sun was about to set. It’s glorious sunshine today…so far.
