The gathering

These last soft days, warm as cat-fur,
are days of ladybird-spangle,
russet as turning leaves, as leaping flames,
swarming on window panes,
creeping across the clear blue sky,
gathering for the long sleep
before the dark.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

    1. Spent today rescuing ladybirds. There a thousands of them outside and the house is filling up with them. They hibernate, but I’m not sure they’re supposed to do it indoors. I kept a whole box full of them last year and they didn’t wake up in the spring ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

      1. It took me a second–because we call them ladybugs. And for a minute I thought you were rescuing birds, which really sounded amazing. That’s sad they didn’t survive.

      2. The name’s something to do with Our Lady and birds, but I can’t remember what. Ladybug doesn’t have quite the same musicality ๐Ÿ™‚
A UK nature site says to put them in a box in a sheltered place outdoors. It’s sheltered indoors too…
