These last soft days, warm as cat-fur,
are days of ladybird-spangle,
russet as turning leaves, as leaping flames,
swarming on window panes,
creeping across the clear blue sky,
gathering for the long sleep
before the dark.

Those blue autumn skies…we have one today. Always welcome. (K)
They set of the turning leaves so well.
And, that dark seems to be only hours away. We can enjoy that too. Maybe not as much as I enjoy your work, but nevertheless…
Ha! The dark I can do without. We’re not isolated from the elements enough here and it invites itself inside.
So beautiful, Jane. Cat-fur warm but sparkly, too. We’ve had some days like that. The clouds have rolled back in here though and it’s very windy.
Spent today rescuing ladybirds. There a thousands of them outside and the house is filling up with them. They hibernate, but I’m not sure they’re supposed to do it indoors. I kept a whole box full of them last year and they didn’t wake up in the spring ๐ฆ
It took me a second–because we call them ladybugs. And for a minute I thought you were rescuing birds, which really sounded amazing. That’s sad they didn’t survive.
The name’s something to do with Our Lady and birds, but I can’t remember what. Ladybug doesn’t have quite the same musicality ๐
A UK nature site says to put them in a box in a sheltered place outdoors. It’s sheltered indoors too…
No, ladybird is prettier sounding than ladybug–even though they’re not birds. ๐
No. You’d need a pretty vivid imagination, but then, believers do, don’t they?
Well, we do, too. ๐
