This haiku seems to me to have a wider social meaning..
It could be a metaphor for the distance between what we consider has the most value and what really matters.

It is ‘white gold’, it’s strange some cultures actually equates white with sorrow, while others with cleansing and purity..
Death can be darkness, night, loss of the sun or it can be white bloodless faces, ash, snow, whatever. Attitudes to death vary, depends which club you belong to.
