Cats

Cat sits
in the long grass,
immobile, patiently
waiting, watching the burrow till…
vole bolts.

Muscles
flex, vertical
leap, an instant of life
before the shrill cry—another
small death.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.

      1. No we have had all sorts of bugs but not Covid. It’s not nice I can tell you but thank goodness we’ve had our vacations. Our middle son has had three versions of covid but this is our first 💜

      2. I think we might have had a touch of the omicron version. Husband had a day of flu-like symptoms and a cough that lasted for days. I just has a cough and a runny nose, but since neither of us have had even a whiff of a cold in at least seven years, we think it must have been the covid.

  1. It makes me think of our white cat Mickey. He once sat still for an hour staring at our panty cabinet, then leaped to the top of it (7-8 ft?) and caught a mouse.

      1. The other day when Trixie was acting as though she had just written her will, and wouldn’t jump onto her chair(s), I thought arthritis too and gave her some of Finbar’s green-lipped mussel powder. It worked wonders for him. He stopped complaining about his joints altogether. I’m giving it to Trixie still, even though she’s jumping as usual. Try it. It worked much better than the tablets the vet prescribed.

      2. I give him some joint supplement the vet prescribed. I have no idea what green-lipped mussel powder is, but I’ll look into it. 😏

      3. I bought it on Amazon France. Most of it comes from Germany. I looked on .com and .co.uk and they don’t carry the powder, just capsules and chews that wouldn’t be any good for cats. German humans take it too. On their cornflakes maybe. Different marketing policy obviously. The good thing about the powder is you can sprinkle it on his food, it’s natural, pure mussels, nothing else and it’s a lot cheaper!
